A Day of Hope and Promise

Yesterday I had the privilege of watching the inauguration of our 44th President and the peaceful transition of power from George Bush to Barack Obama in my work conference room with about 40 co-workers. Many of these same people stood with me in our kitchen and watched the horrors unfold before us on television the morning of September 11, 2001.

Being in a workplace is a strange place to be for historical events. Yesterday was rather special. The room was very quiet. There were sniffles around the table as normally stoic men and women had tears of joy streaming down their faces. The room erupted in applause after Obama took the oath.

A Harvard educated black man, raised by a single mother and grandmother, committed to the safety of our country and the freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution, is President! What a fitting tribute to those civil rights leaders, proponents and those who silently suffered the vestiges and indignities of discrimination based on race. What a spectacular showing to the international community the value of tolerance and diversity. What a day of hope and promise for our country. God Bless America!

It WAS a momentous day and I'll confess to a few tears myself!! I especially liked how he challenged the nation to take an active role in the economic recovery. His comments about confidence and hope were so very true! "Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America." Alot of what he said could apply to the patience, hope and forebearance needed to survive an international adoption, hm?? Thanks for your comment on our blog and for your well wishes and prayers! They're VERY appreciated!
