A Renewed Commitment to Diplomacy
Vice President Joe Biden, speaking with Madam Secretary Hillary Clinton in her first address to the State Department just said' "we are here to demonstrate our renewed commitment to diplomacy." May one of the top items of their agenda be the renewed negotiations between the US and Vietnam to reestablish the program for international adoptions so that more waiting children can be united with forever families who desperately want them.
I know many of you have been wondering what is going on with our adoption. We told you that the province was supposed to make a determination in December. In mid - November, they had committed to our agency to do so. So every day of the remainder of November and December we got our hopes up and day by day that hope slipped away and took a part of us with it.
After 19 months, we were told this week (I am sure this comes as no surprise)...they want to do "more investigation" of our son's "origins." We have no idea what this means and why it won't lead to a dead end. We have not been sitting idly by. Our agency graciously scheduled a conference with its highest level executives and us last week during which together we formulated an advocacy plan for Hung. I don't want to go into the details but suffice it to say, we feel confident that they are prepared to use all their resources to help get this adoption finalized. We are using diplomatic channels in Vietnam and the US and hopefully these inquiries will result in Hung's dossier being finally approved. Should this not happen by the end of February, we will increase our efforts and use other contacts. Our son and we still need your prayers. The very good news is that our program director will be in Vietnam in 3 weeks, meet with officials (she speaks Vietnamese, Thank God!!) and she will see our boy and take video for us. She will tell him that we love him very much and are doing everything every day that we can to bring him home.
There will likely be no more news for several weeks. Monday marks the beginning of lunar New Year in Asia and most of Vietnam will be shut for business for at least a week while people celebrate with friends and family. We will be celebrating Chinese New Year with other families with children from China. We hope, hope, hope that next year we will have the dilemma of splitting our time between Vietnamese Tet celebrations and Chinese New Year festivities.
A special thank you to those who responded to our calls in the last few weeks for contacts in US and Vietnam. We will be using them when the time is right. We have met so many generous people along this adoption journey.
Congratulations to Valorie and Dave - your Nathan will be home soon!

You have our prayers, too.
Keep the faith. Know you all are always in our prayers. Nothing we can say will make things better, but just know, that MANY people are with you all and praying that you are on that plane VERY soon!
We're right there with you guys!! Each time we pray for our approval & for Adria, we think of you guys...you started not much after us for both China & VN. Maybe someday we'll get to meet & introduce our precious kiddos!
Sheri
You know we're praying for you here. I've been thinking about you so much lately.
Love,
Carol
