Hunter and Jaya together again!
This weekend we traveled to a "small town with a big heart" in Iowa to meet the family of Hunter's foster sister from Vietnam. Jaya came home to Jackie, Dar and big sister Jenna in early 2008. She had lived with Hunter in the same foster home for approximately 2 and a half years before her adoption. She talks and asks about Hunter daily. We flew to Missouri and drove about 5 hours on Friday and were greeted with a wonderful family dinner in Jaya's home. The family made us feel instantly welcome and at home. It was wonderful to hear their path to Jaya and their adoption experience in Vietnam and since they have been home. Jackie and Dar have a large corn and soybean farming operation. The kids got to ride on a combine and drive a tractor! It was really something. The love of their community is evident everywhere. It was too short a trip and their gracious hospitality made us want to stay much longer. We can't wait for the chance to reciprocate! On the way back to Missouri yesterday, we stopped in Gretna, NE for what has to be one of the coolest Halloween farm set ups I've ever seen. And...Halloween happens to be my favorite holiday so even though it meant getting to our hotel at almost midnight, it was a great side trek! What a blessing for our family to spent this long weekend with Jaya and her family. We will be eternally grateful to the foster family in Vietnam that prepared Jaya and Hunter to be part of our families!

Beautiful!! What an amazing opportunity and blessing for Hunter and Jaya to see each other again! Did they recognize each other right away? Were they able to talk to each at all about their time in the foster home? Our daughter from China who is almost 14 still stays in touch with kids who were in the orphanage with her. These connections can be life long and so important. We look forward to when Honour and An are able to meet each other again as well. Thanks for sharing Mary Li! (And wonderful video!!!)
So, beautiful! What a wonderful blessing. I just hope someday Josiah can meet up with his foster brother again. We lived in Iowa for three years so it was nice to see all the corn too.
