Safely in Hanoi

We landed last night safely in Hanoi. Where is all the traffic? It is so different than the crazy, hectic people filled HCMC. We are at the Somerset Grand which is centrally located so during the next week while we wait on Hung's passport, we will do a lot of exploring. By foot. The boy throws up alot in the car. He also has never been on stairs which was interesting to see how he adapted quickly at the Reunification Palace (lots of stairs) in Saigon. He did fine on the airplane and was not stressed at all by the take off or landing. He slept most of the way. He loves yogurt and cucumbers dipped in soy sauce. He is also quite fond of little dried shirmp which taste remarkably like those fried onions in a can that you only eat Thanksgiving on green bean casserole.
Hung is not the boy descibed in the reports. He is not shy, quiet, afraid to talk to strangers, without humor or delayed. He is VERY LOUD. He flirted outrageously with a waitress in the airport where we had lunch yesterday. He was yelling after her to tell her he has 5000 dong (about 35 cents). He has told strangers that his new Dad has very large feet. He loves his handheld leapfrong video game. It is all in English and Spanish but he figured out how to do a very difficult game where he had to take different shapes and click and drag them into a puzzle. His spatial thinking is incredible. He wants to press every button in the elevator, turn the volume up on the TV and constantly picks up the phone (he called the front desk 3 times yesterday and hung up the phone when I was talking to Holt). There have been no tears and no fits yet. Lots of smiles and hugs but no kisses from him except when I asked for one at bed time. He mocked Lily when she was calling "come back, come back" in Vietnamese when he ran ahead of us at the airport. Overall, the adjustment so far is going way better than we could have ever asked for. Marshall and Lily are doing well. Lily is having a bit of a hard time with the green eyed monster and Marshall could use some along time because Hung wants to be all over him. Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Watson - please e-mail me the class Sype address. Marshall has lots to share. He will post to the class later on this blog. More good pictures to come! Wiemanns - Thank you for the simple sign language - it is how we are getting by!!!

Glad you're safely in Hanoi!! Enjoy exploring! We had so much fun setting out each day & exploring the city.
Adria also likes cucumbers in soy sauce. She fed some to me & I can't say I enjoyed it.
Glad that Hunter is loving his family...we're continuing to pray for Marshall & Lily!!

How exciting!!! God is good! Thanks for sharing. Love, Jana
I love the details! I enjoyed reading it outloud to our family. We had quite the laugh about the dad with big feet! I wonder what Nathan was telling everybody in Hanoi about his parents.
Soooooooo wonderful!!! The old reports were observing Hunter BEFORE he was with his forever family. You are who he's been waiting for.
Hope your back holds up Jim!!!
Love,
Rob and Christel
PS: Honour is addicted to cucumbers as well. She can easily eat a whole one in a sitting.
Enjoy Hanoi! It sounds like Hung is turning into a real character. It's hilarious that he's telling people his dad has big feet! I love it! And I love the pictures. It looks--and sounds--like you're having a great time.
Glad to hear that all is going well! I recognized so many of the locations in your pictures! One of the things we worried about the most in the early days with Hung was his loudness and overactivity. We were reassured, correctly, that this was probably a phase he was going through, brought on by stress and uncertainty. Hung did settle down shortly after we came home. He can still be loud, but nowhere near as much or as often as he was those first few days. Go with the flow, let him know that it's not appropriate, but don't obsess about it. Go to the playground or the pool or rent a tennis court for an hour and let him blow off that excess energy. That's what we did, anyway! Renting the tennis court is also a good way for Marshall and one of you to get some alone time. Amy and Greg played tennis almost every day when we were there! {{HUGS}}
Hunter looks wonderful!!! Glad all is well! GinaDx
So glad everything is going so well! Hunter looks so happy to be with his forever family! This pics in the Grand playroom brought back so many memories. We spent a lot of time in there. I know just what you're going through with Lily. I'm going to have to try the cucumbers with Josiah and see if he likes them. Continuing to pray for your transition!
Love,
Carol
Looks like all three of them have Daddy right where they want him! Love, love, LOVE the picture of Hunter and Mommy! SO thankful to be following along on your journey. I know first hand this is a sacrifice of your valuable time to keep the blog current, and I sure do appreciate it! What incredible smiles...faces lit up with pure JOY! There is no doubt God himself knit together your incredible family! Love, Brenda
Mary Li, it is so much fun to replay our own early days--so much the same as your INCLUDING the fact that Luke was VERY active those first weeks. I remember being surprised in VN at what a firecracker he was. Once we got him home he settled down and is now a very calm, easy-going little boy. I guess when you think of all the adrenaline and stimulation and excitement and changes swirling around it's no surprise-- Enjoy these sweet, sweet days! Keep posting, we are loving it!
You all look so wonderful.
Love the pictures ... made me want to eat ice-cream!
Thanks for posting and keeping us in the loop.
Enjoy Hanoi.
We are really looking forward to seeing you all.
Love.
